Smith Edwards Architects was selected as the design architectural firm for this new magnet school in a design competition. The winning design was selected from proposals received from 16 firms.

The 60,000 square foot school will have students from Pre-K through
8th Grade enrolled in a curriculum that stresses character development and conflict resolution. The design of the building arranges the classrooms along a curving corridor oriented toward the lawns and playing fields. The building will be LEEDS certified, and include a “green roof” as an outdoor teaching space. Other features of the school include an outdoor amphitheater, a large gymnasium and auditorium space, and a media center and library.

The jury that awarded the competition to Smith Edwards reacted favorably to the design’s child-friendly and homelike appearance.
