The façade of the building at 915 Main Street has been altered several times in its eighty-five-year history. Its original appearance followed the classical tradition of a commercial base, an office shaft, and a capital ornamented with a stone cornice. The building as it appears today is the result of a complete reconstruction of the brick façade completed in the 1960's and a series of decorative bronze-anodized aluminum panels which were added in the 1970's. The resulting appearance of the building is ponderous and dated and could benefit greatly from an aesthetic reworking. Smith Edwards Architects has been engaged to re-design the façade of the building in order to improve its appearance and to make the building more compatible with the adjacent corporate and historic structures. The original vertical window treatment will be recreated as a component of the design, and new trellis cornices added at the roof and storefront levels.
