The work of Smith Edwards Architects encompasses virtually every building type that makes up a community: schools, corporate and governmental offices, firehouses, museums, maintenance facilities, restaurants, retail stores, housing of all types and streetscapes.

We are nationally recognized for our distinguished work with existing buildings and have had the good fortune to serve as architects for the restoration of some of Connecticut's most prestigious landmarks and its largest adaptive reuse projects.

Our recent school work, and, in particular, our expertise in the design of elementary school facilities, has won acclaim from educators, Montessorians, and advocates of "multiple intelligence" learning environments. We endorse and try to incorporate into our school work the principals Reggio Children and Domus Academy Research Center.

Our interest in community building on a larger scale is evident in urban design projects in Hartford and in our school campus planning work.
