Saint Anthony Hall is a literary fraternity occupying this historic French Gothic building on the Trinity College campus in Hartford. Over its
120-year existence, the building had begun to deteriorate on both its interior and exterior, and modern building codes required the addition of a new stair tower. Smith Edwards Architects completed the plans for a restoration of the building, including exterior masonry, slate roofs, stained glass, and decorative painted finishes. At the same time, new mechanical and electrical systems and plumbing upgrades will be carefully introduced into the building.

The new stair tower is a seamless addition to the building, both in material and massing. The new structure is load-bearing masonry and is clad with rusticated granite to match the existing building. The project has been undertaken in two phases: the stair tower addition was completed in fall of 2002, and the interior renovations and restoration were completed in the fall of 2004.
