Smith Edwards Architects is designing a new Performing Arts Center for the Hartt School in collaboration with Performance Architecture of New Orleans. The new facility will be housed in a collection of industrial buildings which made up a former automobile dealership. This nationally acclaimed music school’s need for classroom, rehearsal, and performance spaces continues to expand, and the school is seeking an environment which reflects its diverse academic and public offerings. The University welcomes its participation in stabilizing and rehabilitating the Upper Albany commercial district of Hartford.

The site offers 71,650 square feet in three industrial buildings. The new center will offer spaces designed for vocal, dance, theatre, and community programs. The scope of work includes two performance spaces, rehearsal and recital rooms, dance studios, teaching and office space, a performance library, classrooms, a scene shop, costume shop, community space, bank and café.
