The Walter Wick Studio represents a “win-win” project for the owners, for Smith Edwards Architects, and for the City of Hartford. Our clients were able to purchase this former fire apparatus maintenance facility from the city based on a development scheme developed by Smith Edwards. The project will include studio space for Walter Wick, the creator of the popular “I Spy” children’s book series, and for his wife Linda Cheverton Wick, who manages their Lightspace LLC company. Accessory spaces include offices, woodworking shop, darkroom, model shops, and archival storage. The project also includes an apartment and gallery for the owners’ use. The architectural character of the old “hose and ladder” loft has meshed beautifully with the Wicks’ need for large, open, well-lit spaces |
