Smith Edwards Architects was selected by the City of Hartford to carry out the renovation and expansion of the Thirman Milner Elementary School. This was one of five-school renovation projects being initiated under Hartford’s School Building Program.

The program calls for the renovation and upgrade to the school and site to relieve school overcrowding, provide new and improved facilities, and ADA and Code upgrades. Smith Edwards Architects designed a 16,000 square foot addition to house a cafeteria, kitchen, eight new classrooms and learning center. In addition, the existing school will be refurbished and extensive site improvements made.
